Fall is officially here and as the leaves start to change, so do our wardrobes. I’ve always been a victim of falling mindlessly in love with everything big brands pump out and tell us consumers what we should be wearing and buying each season. I don’t want to look like everyone else at the same time so if I can find a way to put my own spin on a major trend, I’m game! This fall we’re already seeing how big long coats, chokers, turtlenecks, wide leg pants, and denim skirts will be. Here’s my take on these fall fashion crazes and how to elevate your style this season:
The Long Trench Coat
While camel and grey long coats flood our Instagram feeds, I’m channeling my inner Blair Waldorf with this amazing bright red trench coat I picked up in London from Top Shop. A bold coloured coat looks UK chic with a cozy turtleneck, tweed patterned skirt, a pair of tights, and must-have black ankle boots. This outfit combo is perfect for keeping warm on those chilly autumn days while still looking extremely put together.
Wide Leg Pants
Inspired by the natural colours of fall, I’m absolutely obsessed with this pair of burnt orangey/caramel wide leg trousers from Wilfred. I honestly call them my power pants because I feel unstoppable when I wear them. I paired these statement bottoms with a neutral top and chestnut suede sandals for more of a summer to fall transition look. This look also pulls the perfect opportunity to bring out the browns and burgundy shades of our lipstick collections. I wore this outfit to an interview (and got offered the job!!) and I love rocking it for business casual situations like networking events and casual cocktails. For a final touch of elegance, I’m wearing a simple gold bracelet. A black purse or brown leather clutch would look great too!
Step your style game up this year on campus. Hit the books in style and leave the sweat pants at home. Mustard is another great fall colour I’m loving inspired by the bright and beautiful colours on the trees. Stay warm and cozy with a turtle neck and pair it with a pencil skirt like this awesome tweed patterned one from Zara. I’ve got a messenger style book bag over my shoulder, my favourite pair of thick frames from my favourite market in London (yes they were $5 and yes they are fake), and the same pair of chunky sandal heels. I had to walk a lot to get to my classes on campus so a really thick heel that’s easy to walk in but still look cute is key. If heels are a little too much for you, throw on a pair of converse to keep it more casual.
For a slightly edgier look with a French inspired twist, I’m combining a black zippered skinnies, and chunky black ankle boots with a romantic Parisian inspired polka dot top. I love the tie at the neck–a slightly more sophisticated take on the choker trend.
